As is the case with first generation biofuel production, access to cheap feedstock will be of key importance for sucessful, sustainable and profitable deployment of cutting-edge technologies for the production of Advanced Biofuels and Biobased Chemicals. Southeast Asia can deliver both massive amounts of agricultural waste (+200M tpy) and access to cheap and plentiful land (+20M Ha) and labour for energy crop production.
Cheap feedstock is the path to sustainable profits
Southeast Asia can deliver abundant feedstock at cheapest cost
The implications are staggering. As biomass in Europe and in the US will be trading at USD 100-150 per ton, the profit margins for production Advanced Biofuels and Biobased Chemicals will be raizor thin. In Southeast Asia, biomass can be produced for USD 25-35 per ton, fundamentally altering the economics of the production.

By increasing the required CapEx for the processing plant by 20-25% it is possible to establish a fully integrated biorefinery operation with guaranteed feedstock supply using energy crops with biomass yields in access of 100 tpy/Ha.
